How to choose a suspension & fork oil.
Suspension fluid is the damping medium in motorcycle front forks and rear shock absorbers. Its viscosity sets how the suspension feels, so it is sold in graded weights and must keep that viscosity as it heats up over a long ride or a race, which is why the better grades have a high viscosity index.

Picking the right grade
- Weight
- The fork or shock maker gives a recommended weight. A lighter fluid gives faster, softer damping; a heavier one slows it. Grades can be mixed to tune the damping between the standard weights.
- Viscosity index
- A fully synthetic fluid with a high viscosity index, such as the RSF range, keeps its damping consistent as the fork heats up, which matters most on track days and long desert rides.
- Seals
- Use a fluid that is compatible with fork seals and bushings. The RSF grades are made for modern cartridge and conventional forks.
