Yes, if the pack lists the specification your transmission requires. Multi-vehicle fluids cover many Dexron, Mercon and Asian specifications. For CVT, DCT and some newer ZF and Mercedes-Benz transmissions, use the dedicated fluid.

What is the difference between ATF and CVT fluid?

A CVT fluid is made for the steel belt or chain and pulleys of a continuously variable transmission, with a friction level that lets the belt grip without slipping. A conventional ATF is made for clutch packs and planetary gears. They are not interchangeable.

How to choose a automatic transmission fluid.

Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) lubricates the gears and clutches of an automatic gearbox, transmits the drive through the torque converter and keeps the friction of the clutch packs exactly where the gearbox maker set it. That friction requirement is why ATF is specified to the transmission, not just by viscosity: Dexron, Mercon, ZF, Aisin, Toyota WS, Honda and so on. CVT and dual-clutch (DCT) transmissions need their own fluids.

Picking the right grade

The transmission specification: Find the specification in the handbook or on the dipstick. It will name a standard such as Dexron VI, Mercon LV, ZF Lifeguard 8, Toyota WS, Honda DW-1 or Mercedes-Benz 236.14. A multi-vehicle ATF lists the specifications it covers on the pack.
Conventional, CVT or DCT: A continuously variable transmission takes a CVT fluid matched to its belt or chain. A dual-clutch gearbox takes a DCT fluid. Neither works with ordinary ATF, and the wrong fluid damages the transmission.
Power steering and hydraulics: Many hydraulic power steering systems specify an ATF or a dedicated central hydraulic fluid. Check the reservoir cap, and ask us for the FUCHS PENTOSIN central hydraulic fluids if that is what it names.
Older transmissions: Dexron II and III grades remain in the listings for older vehicles, forklifts and industrial powershift transmissions.
