Quenching Oil in the UAE & Oman

How to choose a quenching oil.

Quenching oil cools a steel part from hardening temperature at a controlled rate, fast enough to harden it and slow enough to avoid cracking and distortion. Oils are graded by quenching speed: fast oils for low-hardenability steels and heavy sections, normal and slow oils for alloy steels and thin parts, and hot (marquenching) oils used at 100 to 200 °C for the least distortion. Polymer quenchants in water cover the range between water and oil.

LUBE-tech supplies quenching oils from FUCHS RENOQUENCH and THERMISOL and Castrol Iloquench in Dubai and across the UAE and Oman, to heat treaters, fastener and gear plants.

Picking the right grade

Quenching speed
Match the oil's speed to the steel's hardenability and the section size. Fast oils, such as Castrol Iloquench 455 and the THERMISOL QH grades, suit case-hardened and heavy parts; normal-speed oils such as THERMISOL QB suit alloy tool steels.
Distortion
Gears, bearings and precision parts use low-distortion oils such as Iloquench 25 or a hot marquenching oil, which quenches more evenly.
Flash point and drag-out
Hot quench oils need a high flash point. Low-viscosity oils drain off the part faster and carry less oil out of the tank, which saves oil and cleaning.
Open or sealed furnace
Sealed-quench furnaces need a low-evaporation, ageing-stable oil; the THERMISOL QH MC grades are listed as suitable for open and closed lines.
