How to choose a electrical contact lubricant.
An electrical contact lubricant is applied to switches, relays, connectors, slip rings and plug-in contacts to reduce the wear and fretting that happen each time the contact slides or vibrates, and to keep oxygen and sulphur away from the metal so the contact resistance stays low. Unlike a dielectric grease, it is designed to sit between the contacts and still let current pass, through a very thin film the contact pressure breaks.

Picking the right grade
- Low-voltage switches and relays
- Nye Rheotemp and Rheolube greases are made for switch contacts, with grades fortified to protect silver and copper against sulphur and oxidation.
- Connectors and fretting
- Vibrating connectors in vehicles and machinery suffer fretting corrosion. NyeTact dispersions are applied thinly to plated connector pins to stop it; the UV-traced grades let application be checked under a lamp.
- EV charging plugs
