How to choose a ep grease.
An EP (extreme pressure) grease carries additives that form a protective layer on the metal when the load is high enough to squeeze the oil film out: shock loads, slow speeds, vibration, heavy pins and bushes, plain bearings and large roller bearings on crushers, mills, cranes and earthmoving machines. EP2 is the grade most plants stock as a general grease.

Picking the right grade
- Lithium EP2
- The standard plant grease for bearings and bushes at normal temperatures: Multis EP 2, Mobilux EP 2, ADNOC Grease EP 2 and their equivalents.
- Lithium complex EP
- For the same duties at higher temperatures and with better water resistance; RENOLIT Duraplex EP and Mobilith SHC are examples. The synthetic grades last longest.
- Note on the listings
- Grades are shown here when the maker's own description calls them EP or extreme pressure. Other greases in the catalogue carry EP additives too; check the data sheet or ask us.
- Calcium sulphonate EP
- For wet, heavy and hot conditions together, such as steel mills, cement plant and marine deck machinery; the Ceran range is calcium sulphonate complex.
- Moly fortified
- For slow, oscillating or shock-loaded joints and pins, an EP grease with MoS2 adds a solid lubricant; see the moly grease page.
