How to choose a white oil.
White oil is a highly refined mineral oil with the aromatics removed, so it is colourless, odourless and chemically inert. Medicinal (pharmaceutical) grades meet the European and US pharmacopoeias and are used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food processing and food-contact plastics. Technical grades serve as process oils, plasticisers and the base for many NSF H1 lubricants.

Picking the right grade
- Grade
- Medicinal white oils, such as the Finavestan A B series and Castrol Optileb DAB 8, meet the pharmacopoeia purity tests. Technical white oils are for industrial uses where that purity is not needed.
- Viscosity
- White oils are sold by viscosity, from thin oils for sprays and release to heavy oils for plasticising and dust binding. The product name usually carries the viscosity number.
- Use
- Tell us the application, such as polymer plasticiser, release agent, cosmetic base, food machinery lubricant or dust suppression, and we will quote the grade with the right certificate.
