How to choose a food grade hydraulic oil.
Food grade hydraulic oil is an NSF H1 oil for the hydraulic systems on fillers, presses, palletisers, lifts and packaging machines in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants. It does the same job as an industrial HLP oil, with anti-wear protection, water separation and oxidation stability, but is made from ingredients registered for incidental food contact.

Picking the right grade
- Viscosity
- ISO VG 46 covers most systems; VG 32 for cooler and high-speed systems, VG 68 for hot plant. Use the grade the machine maker specifies.
- Mineral or synthetic
- White-oil based H1 hydraulic oils suit most plants. Synthetic PAO grades last longer in hot or heavily loaded systems and give a wider temperature range.
- Changing over
- Switching an existing system from a standard oil to H1 means draining and flushing so the new fill stays H1. Ask us for the procedure.
